Musician and inventor E. V. Powell was the son of Verne Q. Powell, founder of the well-known Boston flute company that bears his name.
E. V. Powell's flutes were made in a small workshop in Vermont by a handful of artisan/craftsmen, some of whom were ex-Verne Powell Flute Company employees. Only 30 V. Q. Powell flute were ever produced, all in xxxx. Legal action by the V. Q. Powell Flutes in Boston prevented the Powell name from being used on any flutes produced after the first 30.
The E. V. Powell flutes are all silver with full handmade construction, .014" body tube, and soldered tone holes. The small company pioneered silver soldering or brazing tone holes to the body of the flute, a difficult technique that results in a much more durable construction than lead-soldered tone holes on which the lead solder eventually hardens and deteriorates. Modern Verne Q. Powell flutes have brazed tone holes, but the technique was first developed for E. V. Powell flutes over 30 years ago!
Our E. V. Powell flute bears #25 and has French keywork (open holes), pointed French-style key arms, low B foot section, and in-line G.
Condition of the flute is all-original, pristine and immaculate, with no scratches, no damage ever.
